Submission Preparation Checklist
All submissions must meet the following requirements.
- The manuscript complies with the journal’s Author Guidelines.
- The work is original, has not been previously published, and is not under simultaneous consideration by another journal.
- The main manuscript file is provided in editable .doc or .docx format.
- All authors have approved the submission and meet the journal’s authorship criteria.
- Author names, affiliations, email addresses, and ORCID identifiers, when available, have been entered correctly.
- The manuscript includes a title, abstract, and keywords in Spanish and English when applicable.
- References follow Vancouver style and include DOI identifiers when available.
- Tables and figures are numbered, cited in the text, and have the necessary permissions when applicable.
- Funding sources and potential conflicts of interest have been disclosed.
- Author contributions have been reported, preferably using the CRediT taxonomy.
- Ethics approval and informed consent information are included when applicable.
- A data availability statement is included when applicable.
- Any relevant use of artificial intelligence tools has been disclosed.
- The manuscript file intended for peer review has been anonymized to preserve double-blind peer review.
Original Articles
Original Articles report previously unpublished research providing relevant findings in medicine, health sciences, biomedical sciences, and biological sciences. Quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods, observational, experimental, and secondary data analysis studies are considered.
Manuscripts must comply with the journal's Author Guidelines and, when applicable, should follow the Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion (IMRaD) structure.
Original Articles undergo an initial editorial assessment and, when they meet the journal's requirements, double-blind peer review by at least two external reviewers. The final editorial decision rests with the Editor-in-Chief or the handling editor.
Letters to the Editor
Letters to the Editor publish scholarly comments on articles previously published in the journal, scientific observations, methodological discussions, and brief communications on topics relevant to the scope of PCMB.
Letters should present clear, respectful, and scientifically supported arguments. When a letter refers to a published article, the editorial team may invite the authors of the original article to respond.
Letters undergo editorial assessment. The Editor-in-Chief may seek external expert advice when warranted by the content.
Perspectives and Commentaries
Perspectives and Commentaries publish scholarly analyses, critical interpretations, and evidence-informed reflections on current or emerging topics in medicine, health sciences, biomedical sciences, and biological sciences.
These contributions should provide an original perspective, be supported by relevant scientific literature, and clearly distinguish available evidence from the authors’ interpretation or opinion.
Manuscripts undergo editorial assessment. When warranted by the scientific complexity or nature of the content, the Editor-in-Chief may seek advice from external experts before making an editorial decision.
Review Articles
Review Articles synthesize, analyze, and critically evaluate the available scientific evidence on relevant topics in medicine, health sciences, biomedical sciences, and biological sciences.
This section accepts systematic reviews, meta-analyses, scoping reviews, and narrative reviews of scientific relevance. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses should follow the PRISMA recommendations or other applicable reporting guidelines when appropriate.
Manuscripts should present a clearly defined question or objective, transparently describe the methods used to identify and analyze the literature, and provide a critical and up-to-date interpretation of the available evidence.
Manuscripts undergo an initial editorial assessment and, when they meet the journal's requirements, double-blind peer review by at least two external reviewers.
Brief Communications
Brief Communications report original findings, preliminary results, or limited-scope studies that provide relevant scientific information in medicine, health sciences, biomedical sciences, and biological sciences.
Manuscripts should concisely present the study objective, methods, main results, and conclusions. They must comply with the journal’s ethical, authorship, and research integrity requirements.
Brief Communications undergo an initial editorial assessment and, when they meet the journal’s requirements, double-blind peer review by at least two external reviewers.
Case Reports and Case Series
Case Reports and Case Series publish individual clinical cases or case series presenting diagnostic, therapeutic, prognostic, epidemiological, or educational findings of interest to clinical practice and the health sciences.
Manuscripts should provide a clearly justified scientific or educational contribution and present clinical information in a structured manner while strictly protecting patient confidentiality.
When applicable, authors should follow the CARE guidelines for case reports and declare that informed consent for publication has been obtained.

Authors retain copyright in their works and grant Perspectivas en Ciencias Médicas y Biológicas the right of first publication.
By submitting a manuscript, the authors declare that the work is original, that they hold the necessary rights to its content, and that it does not infringe the rights of third parties.
The authors authorize the journal to publish, reproduce, distribute, and preserve the article in electronic format, as well as to make the editorial modifications necessary for publication, provided that such changes do not alter the scientific content or meaning of the work.
Authors may subsequently disseminate the published version of their work through institutional repositories, personal websites, or other academic platforms, provided that the original publication in Perspectivas en Ciencias Médicas y Biológicas is properly acknowledged.
