Perspectivas en Ciencias Médicas y Biológicas (PCMB) is an open-access scientific journal dedicated to the dissemination of research and scholarly contributions in medicine, health sciences, and biological sciences.
Scope: The journal covers, among other areas, clinical medicine, public health, epidemiology, biomedical sciences, basic sciences applied to health, and biological sciences. Its aim is to provide a forum for the communication and discussion of scientific knowledge relevant to clinical practice, research, teaching, and public health.
The journal is intended for researchers, healthcare professionals, academics, students, and other readers interested in these fields. It considers for publication original articles, review articles, brief communications, case reports or case series, letters to the editor, editorials, and other scholarly contributions related to its scope.
Publication frequency: Annual, under a continuous publication model. Articles are published individually online once the editorial process has been completed and are progressively incorporated into the volume corresponding to the current year.
Submitted manuscripts are evaluated according to criteria of scientific quality, relevance, originality, methodological clarity, and research ethics. Manuscripts subject to external review undergo peer review before the final editorial decision.
Perspectivas en Ciencias Médicas y Biológicas promotes open access to scientific knowledge and good practices in scholarly publishing and research integrity.
Peer Review Process
Perspectivas en Ciencias Médicas y Biológicas (PCMB) applies a peer review process to assess the scientific quality, originality, relevance, and methodological rigor of submitted manuscripts.
All manuscripts initially undergo a preliminary editorial assessment to verify their suitability for the journal’s scope, compliance with editorial guidelines, ethical considerations, and overall scientific quality.
Manuscripts that pass this initial assessment are generally sent to at least two external reviewers with expertise in the relevant subject area.
The journal uses a double-blind peer review system, in which the identities of the authors are not disclosed to the reviewers and the identities of the reviewers are not disclosed to the authors.
Reviewers assess, among other aspects, the originality and relevance of the work, the clarity of the objectives, the appropriateness of the methodology, the presentation and interpretation of the results, the consistency of the conclusions, the relevance of the references, and compliance with ethical principles.
Reviewers may recommend:
- Acceptance of the manuscript.
- Minor revisions.
- Major revisions.
- Rejection of the manuscript.
The final editorial decision rests with the Editor-in-Chief or the editor responsible for the manuscript, taking into account the reviewers’ reports and, when applicable, the authors’ responses and revisions.
In cases of substantial disagreement between reviewers, an additional reviewer may be invited to evaluate the manuscript.
Reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts and disclose any potential conflict of interest before accepting a review assignment.
Manuscripts submitted by members of the editorial team will be handled independently, without the author-editor participating in reviewer selection or in the final editorial decision.
Publication Ethics and Research Integrity
Perspectivas en Ciencias Médicas y Biológicas (PCMB) promotes good practices in scholarly publishing and research integrity throughout all stages of the editorial process. The journal is guided by internationally recognized principles and recommendations on publication ethics, including those established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).
Research involving human participants. Studies involving human participants must comply with internationally accepted ethical principles and obtain approval from an appropriate research ethics committee when required. The manuscript should state the name of the ethics committee, the approval or reference number, and whether informed consent was obtained when applicable.
Animal research. Studies involving animals must comply with applicable ethical, institutional, and legal standards and must report the relevant approval when required.
Consent and privacy. Authors must protect the identity and confidentiality of participants. Case reports and other manuscripts containing potentially identifiable information must include consent for publication when applicable.
Originality and plagiarism. Submitted manuscripts must be original. Plagiarism, substantial self-plagiarism, duplicate or redundant publication, data fabrication or falsification, inappropriate image manipulation, and other forms of research misconduct are not accepted. The journal may use similarity-detection tools as part of the editorial assessment.
Authorship. Authorship must reflect substantial contributions to the work. Honorary, guest, or ghost authorship is not permitted. When applicable, author contributions should preferably be described using the CRediT taxonomy.
Conflicts of interest. Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any financial, professional, institutional, or personal relationships that could influence, or reasonably be perceived to influence, the editorial process.
Funding. Authors must disclose all sources of research funding and, when applicable, describe the role of funders in the study design, conduct, analysis, or publication.
Use of artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence tools cannot be listed as authors. Any relevant use of such tools in manuscript preparation must be transparently disclosed. Authors remain responsible for verifying the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the final content.
Allegations of misconduct. Allegations of possible research or publication misconduct will be assessed confidentially and objectively. When necessary, the journal may request additional information from authors, institutions, or other involved parties.
Corrections and retractions. If significant errors or concerns affecting the reliability of a published article are identified after publication, the journal may issue corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions according to the nature and severity of the problem. Post-publication changes will be clearly identified and linked to the original article.
Decisions concerning research integrity will be made with the aim of preserving the accuracy of the scholarly record and the fairness of the editorial process.
Open Access and Licensing Policy
Perspectivas en Ciencias Médicas y Biológicas (PCMB) is an open-access journal. All published content is freely available to readers worldwide, without access, subscription, or registration fees.
The journal allows users to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, link to, and reuse published articles, provided that the terms of the applicable license are respected and appropriate credit is given to the authors and the original source.
Articles published in Perspectivas en Ciencias Médicas y Biológicas are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0) unless otherwise stated.
This license permits sharing and adaptation of the material for any purpose, including commercial use, provided that appropriate credit is given, a link to the license is provided, and any changes made are indicated.
Authors retain copyright in their works and grant the journal the right of first publication.
The journal does not impose embargo periods on access to published content.
Digital Preservation
Perspectivas en Ciencias Médicas y Biológicas (PCMB) recognizes the importance of ensuring the long-term availability, integrity, and accessibility of its published scientific content.
The journal maintains its content and metadata through its Open Journal Systems (OJS) editorial platform and seeks to preserve backup copies of published files and the editorial information necessary for their recovery.
Published articles remain permanently available on the journal’s website together with their bibliographic metadata and associated files.
The journal also encourages the deposit and preservation of published articles in institutional, subject-specific, or other scholarly repositories, in accordance with its open-access policy and the applicable license.
PCMB will continue to incorporate recognized digital preservation mechanisms to ensure the long-term preservation and recovery of its content in the event of technological contingencies.
Corrections, Retractions, and Post-Publication Changes
Perspectivas en Ciencias Médicas y Biológicas (PCMB) is committed to maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of the published scholarly record.
When errors are identified after publication that do not invalidate the main results or conclusions of an article, the journal may publish a correction that is clearly linked to the original article.
When serious errors, data fabrication or falsification, plagiarism, redundant publication, unethical research, or other circumstances substantially compromise the reliability of a published work, the journal may issue a retraction.
When significant concerns arise regarding the integrity or reliability of an article and the relevant investigation has not yet been completed, the journal may publish an expression of concern.
Decisions regarding corrections, retractions, and expressions of concern will be made according to the circumstances of each case and with reference to the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Retracted articles will not normally be removed from the journal website unless legal, safety, or privacy considerations require removal. The published version will remain accessible and will be clearly identified as retracted, with a link to the corresponding retraction notice.
Corrections and other post-publication notices will be linked to the original article to preserve transparency and the integrity of the scholarly record.
Editorial Complaints and Appeals
Perspectivas en Ciencias Médicas y Biológicas (PCMB) maintains a procedure for receiving and evaluating complaints related to editorial decisions, editorial conduct, peer review, conflicts of interest, research integrity, or other aspects of the publication process.
Authors may request reconsideration of an editorial decision when they believe that substantial errors occurred during the evaluation of the manuscript. Appeals must be properly justified and clearly explain the reasons for requesting reconsideration.
Submitting an appeal does not necessarily result in a change to the editorial decision.
Complaints and appeals will be assessed objectively, confidentially, and without retaliation. When appropriate, they may be reviewed by an editor who was not previously involved in the decision under consideration.
When a complaint concerns the Editor-in-Chief, the matter should be evaluated by another qualified member of the editorial team or by an independent adviser.
Matters involving potential research or publication misconduct will be handled in accordance with the principles and recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
The journal will endeavor to inform the complainant of the outcome of the assessment and, when appropriate, any actions taken.
Research Data and Reproducibility
Perspectivas en Ciencias Médicas y Biológicas (PCMB) promotes transparency, reproducibility, and the responsible reuse of research data.
Whenever ethically and legally possible, authors are encouraged to make the data, code, protocols, and other materials supporting their research findings available through institutional, subject-specific, or general-purpose repositories.
Manuscripts should include, when applicable, a data availability statement indicating where the supporting data may be accessed or explaining any restrictions on access.
Public sharing of data will not be required when it could compromise participant privacy or confidentiality, conflict with ethical or legal requirements, or violate legitimate data-access agreements.
Authors are responsible for ensuring that data sharing complies with applicable ethical, legal, and data-protection requirements.
Preprints and Previous Versions
Perspectivas en Ciencias Médicas y Biológicas (PCMB) considers manuscripts that have previously been deposited in recognized preprint servers.
Posting a manuscript as a preprint is not considered prior publication and does not, by itself, prevent the manuscript from being considered by the journal.
Authors must disclose during submission whether a preprint version of the manuscript exists and provide the corresponding link or identifier.
If the article is subsequently published in PCMB, authors are encouraged to update the preprint record with the citation and DOI of the published version.
Editorial Independence and Decision-Making
Editorial decisions at Perspectivas en Ciencias Médicas y Biológicas (PCMB) are based on scientific quality, originality, relevance, methodological rigor, integrity, and suitability for the journal’s scope.
Decisions regarding the acceptance or rejection of manuscripts will not be influenced by commercial, personal, institutional, or financial interests.
The Editor-in-Chief and handling editors must disclose and appropriately manage any potential conflicts of interest involving manuscripts under their responsibility.
When an editor has a conflict of interest involving a manuscript, that editor must not participate in its evaluation, reviewer selection, or final editorial decision.
Advertising and Editorial Marketing
Perspectivas en Ciencias Médicas y Biológicas (PCMB) maintains a clear separation between editorial decision-making and any advertising, promotional, or outreach activities.
Any advertising or institutional support will not influence the selection, evaluation, acceptance, or rejection of manuscripts.
Communications directed to prospective authors, reviewers, or readers must be accurate and professional and must not include misleading claims regarding indexing, metrics, publication times, or the journal’s status.
The journal will not claim to be indexed in databases or services in which it has not been formally accepted.
Journal Funding and Author Fees
Perspectivas en Ciencias Médicas y Biológicas (PCMB) operates under an open-access model and does not charge submission fees, peer-review fees, editorial processing charges, or article publication charges (APCs).
The absence of author fees has no influence on manuscript evaluation criteria or editorial decisions.
Any future change to the journal’s fee policy will be publicly disclosed on the journal website before implementation and will not be applied retroactively to manuscripts previously accepted under different conditions.
