About the Journal
Perspectivas en Ciencias Médicas y Biológicas (PCMB) is a multidisciplinary open-access scientific journal dedicated to the dissemination of research and scholarly contributions in medicine, health sciences, and biological sciences.
Aims and scope: the journal covers, among other areas, clinical medicine, public health, epidemiology, nursing, mental health, biomedical sciences, genetics and genomics, molecular biology, microbiology, biotechnology, basic sciences applied to health, biological sciences, environmental sciences, and medical and health professions education.
The journal also promotes interdisciplinary research conducted within the One Health approach, particularly studies addressing the interactions among human, animal, plant, and ecosystem health. This scope includes, among other topics, zoonotic diseases, antimicrobial resistance, vector-borne diseases, environmental microbiology, food safety, biodiversity, environmental pollution, climate change, and other environmental and biological determinants of health.
PCMB aims to provide a forum for the communication and discussion of scientific knowledge relevant to clinical practice, research, education, public health, and the understanding of relationships among biological, environmental, and health systems.
The journal is intended for researchers, health professionals, biological and environmental science professionals, faculty members, students, and other readers interested in these fields. The journal considers original articles, reviews, brief communications, case reports or case series, letters to the editor, editorials, and other scholarly contributions related to its scope.
Publication frequency: annual, under a continuous publication model. Articles are published individually online once the editorial process has been completed and are progressively incorporated into the corresponding annual volume.
Submitted manuscripts are evaluated according to criteria of scientific quality, relevance, originality, methodological clarity, and principles of research ethics. Manuscripts subject to external review undergo peer review before a final editorial decision is made.
Perspectivas en Ciencias Médicas y Biológicas promotes open access to scientific knowledge and good practices in scholarly publishing and research integrity.
Peer Review Process
Perspectivas en Ciencias Médicas y Biológicas (PCMB) applies a peer review process to assess the scientific quality, originality, relevance, and methodological rigor of submitted manuscripts.
All manuscripts initially undergo a preliminary editorial assessment to verify their suitability for the journal's scope, compliance with editorial requirements, ethical considerations, and scientific quality.
Manuscripts that pass this initial evaluation and are subject to peer review are sent to two external and independent reviewers with expertise in the relevant subject area.
The journal uses a double-blind peer review system, in which the identities of the authors are not disclosed to the reviewers and the identities of the reviewers are not disclosed to the authors.
Reviewers assess the originality and relevance of the work, the clarity of the objectives, methodological appropriateness, presentation and interpretation of the results, consistency of the conclusions, relevance of the references, and compliance with ethical principles.
Reviewers may recommend acceptance, minor revisions, major revisions, or rejection of the manuscript.
The final editorial decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief or the editor responsible for the manuscript, taking into account the reviewers' reports and, when applicable, the authors' responses and revisions.
In cases of substantial disagreement between reviewers, an additional reviewer may be invited to evaluate the manuscript.
Reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts and disclose any potential conflict of interest before accepting a review assignment.
Manuscripts submitted by members of the editorial team will be handled independently, without participation of the author-editor in reviewer selection or the final editorial decision.
Ethics and Research Integrity
Perspectivas en Ciencias Médicas y Biológicas (PCMB) promotes good scientific publishing practices and integrity throughout all stages of the editorial process. The journal follows internationally recognized principles and recommendations on publication ethics, including those established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).
Research involving human participants. Studies involving human participants must comply with internationally accepted ethical principles and obtain approval from a research ethics committee when applicable. The manuscript must state the name of the committee, the approval number or code, and whether informed consent was obtained when applicable.
Animal research. Studies involving animals must comply with applicable ethical, institutional, and legal standards and report the corresponding approval when required.
Consent and privacy. Authors must protect the identity and confidentiality of participants. Case reports and other studies containing potentially identifiable information must obtain consent for publication when applicable.
Originality and plagiarism. Manuscripts must be original. Plagiarism, substantial self-plagiarism, duplicate or redundant publication, fabrication or falsification of data, inappropriate image manipulation, and other forms of scientific misconduct are not accepted. The journal may use similarity-detection tools as part of its editorial assessment.
Authorship. Authorship must reflect substantial contributions to the work. Honorary, guest, or ghost authorship is not permitted. When appropriate, contributions should be described using the CRediT taxonomy.
Conflicts of interest. Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any financial, professional, institutional, or personal relationships that could influence or be perceived to influence the editorial process.
Funding. Authors must disclose the sources of funding for the research and, when applicable, the role of funders in the design, conduct, analysis, or publication of the study.
Use of artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence tools cannot be listed as authors. Relevant use of such tools in manuscript preparation must be transparently disclosed. Authors remain responsible for verifying the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the final content.
Use of artificial intelligence by reviewers. Reviewers must preserve the confidentiality of manuscripts and must not upload complete manuscripts, substantial excerpts, unpublished data, or confidential information to publicly accessible generative artificial intelligence tools. Artificial intelligence must not replace the reviewer’s critical and expert judgment or be used to autonomously generate a peer review report. Reviewers remain fully responsible for the content, accuracy, and integrity of their evaluations.
Use of artificial intelligence by editors. Editors must protect the confidentiality of manuscripts throughout the editorial process and must not upload confidential or unpublished content to publicly accessible generative artificial intelligence tools. Automated tools may be used for administrative or editorial support when appropriate, but they must not replace human evaluation or the editor’s responsibility for editorial decisions.
Allegations of misconduct. Allegations of possible scientific or editorial misconduct will be assessed confidentially and objectively. When necessary, the journal may request additional information from authors, institutions, or other parties involved.
Corrections and retractions. When relevant errors or problems affecting the reliability of an article are identified after publication, the journal may publish corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions according to the nature and severity of the issue. Post-publication modifications must be clearly identified and linked to the original article.
Decisions related to research integrity will be made with the aim of preserving the accuracy of the scholarly record and the impartiality of the editorial process.

When significant concerns exist regarding the integrity or reliability of an article and the corresponding investigation has not yet been completed, the journal may publish an expression of concern.
Decisions regarding corrections, retractions, and expressions of concern will be made according to the nature of each case and with reference to the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Retracted articles will not be removed from the journal website unless legal, safety, or privacy considerations justify their removal. The published version will remain accessible and will be clearly identified as retracted, with a link to the corresponding retraction notice.
Corrections and other post-publication notices will be linked to the original article to preserve transparency and the integrity of the scholarly record.
Editorial Complaints and Appeals
Perspectivas en Ciencias Médicas y Biológicas (PCMB) has a procedure for receiving and evaluating complaints related to editorial decisions, editorial conduct, peer review, conflicts of interest, research integrity, or other aspects of the publication process.
Authors may request reconsideration of an editorial decision when they believe that substantial errors occurred during the evaluation of the manuscript. Appeals must be appropriately justified and clearly explain the reasons for the request.
Submission of an appeal does not necessarily imply that the editorial decision will be changed.
Complaints and appeals will be evaluated objectively, confidentially, and without retaliation. When appropriate, they may be reviewed by an editor who was not previously involved in the disputed decision.
When a complaint involves the Editor-in-Chief, the matter must be evaluated by another qualified member of the editorial team or by an independent adviser.
Matters involving possible scientific or editorial misconduct will be handled according to the principles and recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
The journal will seek to communicate the outcome of the evaluation and, where applicable, the measures taken to the interested party.
Research Data and Reproducibility
Perspectivas en Ciencias Médicas y Biológicas (PCMB) promotes transparency, reproducibility, and the responsible reuse of research data.
Whenever ethically and legally possible, authors are encouraged to make the data, code, protocols, or other materials supporting the results of their research available through institutional, subject-specific, or general-purpose repositories.
Manuscripts should include, when applicable, a data availability statement indicating where the data may be accessed or explaining the reasons why access is restricted.
Public availability of data will not be required when it could compromise participant privacy or confidentiality, conflict with ethical or legal requirements, or violate legitimate data access agreements.
Authors are responsible for ensuring that data sharing complies with applicable ethical, legal, and data protection requirements.
Preprints and Previous Versions
Perspectivas en Ciencias Médicas y Biológicas (PCMB) allows the consideration of manuscripts that have previously been deposited in recognized preprint servers.
Publication of a preprint is not considered prior publication and, by itself, does not prevent the manuscript from being submitted for evaluation by the journal.
Authors must disclose during submission whether a preprint version of the manuscript exists and provide the corresponding link or identifier.
If the article is subsequently published in PCMB, authors are encouraged to update the preprint record to include the citation and DOI of the published version.
Editorial Independence and Decision-Making
Editorial decisions at Perspectivas en Ciencias Médicas y Biológicas (PCMB) are based on scientific quality, originality, relevance, methodological rigor, integrity, and the suitability of manuscripts for the journal's scope.
Decisions regarding acceptance or rejection of manuscripts will not be influenced by commercial, personal, institutional, or financial interests.
The Editor-in-Chief and responsible editors must disclose and manage any potential conflicts of interest related to manuscripts under their responsibility.
When an editor has a conflict of interest regarding a manuscript, that editor must refrain from participating in its evaluation, reviewer selection, and final decision.
Research Publication Support Program
Perspectivas en Ciencias Médicas y Biológicas (PCMB) operates a free pre-submission support program designed to facilitate the transformation of theses and other academic research projects into scientific manuscripts.
Participation is voluntary and free of charge and does not imply any obligation to submit the manuscript to PCMB. Authors retain full freedom to use the resulting draft and decide which journal, if any, they wish to submit it to.
The support provided may include assistance with manuscript structure, content synthesis, organization and presentation of results and tables, discussion, and general adaptation to the format of a scientific article.
Authors remain responsible for the content of their research and must review, correct, and approve the final version of the manuscript before any submission.
A manuscript prepared through this program remains at the disposal of its authors, who may freely decide whether to submit it to PCMB, submit it to another journal, or discontinue the publication process.
Participation in the program does not imply acceptance, priority, a guarantee of publication, or preferential editorial treatment. Manuscripts subsequently submitted to PCMB must meet the same requirements and undergo the same editorial and peer review process as all other submissions.
When a member of the editorial team has substantially participated in the pre-submission guidance or preparation of a manuscript that is subsequently submitted to PCMB, that individual will not participate in its editorial evaluation, reviewer selection, or final editorial decision. The manuscript will be handled independently by another qualified editor.
Participation in this program does not determine authorship of the manuscript. Authorship must be established according to the contributions actually made to the work and the journal's authorship policies.

Perspectivas en Ciencias Médicas y Biológicas (PCMB) maintains a clear separation between editorial decisions and any advertising, promotional, or dissemination activities.
The possible presence of advertising or institutional support will not influence the selection, evaluation, acceptance, or rejection of manuscripts.
Communications addressed to prospective authors, reviewers, or readers must be truthful and professional and must not contain misleading statements regarding indexing, metrics, publication times, or the prestige of the journal.
The journal will not describe itself as indexed in databases or services in which it has not yet been formally accepted.
